The students behind SCESA

SCESA is the student association of the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences at Strathmore University. Since 2014 we have worked to close the gap between classroom theory and real-world engineering.

Mission and vision

Our mission

We want to build innovation and technical excellence across Strathmore by:

  • Growing real interest in engineering and IT through meetings, publications, seminars and hands-on sessions.
  • Backing local innovation and technical talent at Strathmore University.
  • Keeping students up to date with what is changing in ICT and modern engineering.

Our vision

A student tech community that can hold its own anywhere, built on partnerships with engineering and IT organisations in Kenya, across the region and around the world. We want every member to have access to global opportunities, affordable specialised bootcamps and an alumni network that helps them lead.

Connecting academia to industry

That is what we stand for. In the spirit of Strathmore's motto, Ut Omnes Unum Sint (“That all may be one”), four ideas guide everything we run.

  • Innovation

We give students room to try ideas, build them and put them in front of real users.

  • Collaboration

Most of what we do happens in teams, with other clubs and with people from industry.

  • Industry Readiness

Site visits, mentors and real projects mean members start their first job knowing how the work gets done.

  • Excellence

We pay attention to detail and keep at a piece of work until it is right.

Our story so far

  1. 2014

    SUITSA is born

SCESA starts life as SUITSA, the Strathmore University IT Students Association.
  2. 2020

    SUITSA becomes SCESA

The Faculty of IT merges with the engineering school to form the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences. SUITSA becomes SCESA so it can represent students from both.
  3. 2020–2025

    Growing the club

New communities start under SCESA and our events grow bigger and better every year. More than 250 members have joined us along the way.
  4. 2026

    Four awards for 2025/26

At the Strathmore Clubs & Sports Gala we won four awards for the 2025/26 academic year.
